The legend surrounding this cemetery involves a father who put a curse on his large family as he died. The curse said that after he passed away, one of his eight children would die every six months. The curse came true and one by one, each child died of illness at six-month intervals. Then, six months later, their mother died, too. There is a large statue in the cemetery called the Weeping Lady, and it is surrounded by eight graves and is said to be crying over her children. Stories say if you go to the graveyard on midnight of the night one of the children died, you can hear the mother crying and tears will appear on her cheeks. Other stories claim there was never a curse, and the couple were Olaf and Julia Cronquist from Scandinavia. Julia was not very well herself and continued to lose her also-frail children to illness. She spent a lot of time visiting their graves, and when she passed away in 1914, the statue of her was erected by Olaf.
